I am going to roll out a 4mm square section of silver wire to 5mm x 3mm and wondered by how much it will lengthen. Is there a formula for this type of exercise?
Thanks Dennis

Hi,

I know this has been answered, but I calculate VOLUME whenever I am figuring out how much silver I need.

Volume (v) = L x W x H

In your case:

v = 4 x 4 x 150

so the volume is: 2400mm³

Now you need to know how long the new piece will be so you need to substitute

2400 = L (unknown) x 5.5 x 1.7

So, L = 2400/(5.5 x 1.7)

L = 256.68mm
