Yellow ochre (powder or watercolour works)
Graphite
Ball clay
...

There's a few others but those are what spring to mind.

Tippex is what I use on mokume plates to stop the plates and the metal fusing. Being mostly titanium dioxide, it's very effective - but can be a pig to clean off.

My silver tutor used rouge and something mixed to a paste. It looked very messy, but she said not as hard as tippex to clean off.

Possibly meths, easier to get it in suspension than with water from what I've heard. Yes, I'd forgotten that one!
