    Default Flat stone setting

    Hello! Just a quick question, would you use a rub over setting to set a flat stone in to a bezel? Any tips are welcome!

    Thanks

    Hi Mari Eluned;

    The short answer is yes, but for extra retention you need a tiny bevel around the top edge if you don't have one already.

    Or else for an opaque stone, a good fit and a small dab of epoxy glue at the back, before finally setting it. This also gives you a chance to show it off with a wide and possibly textured metal edge. You would be advised to cut your strip from fine silver sheet, rather than using flimsy ready cut bezel . This one below is about 0.7mm thick. Dennis.

    Thank you Dennis,
    Handy tips, It is Slate that I want to set, so your 2nd option would work, I like the idea of the textured edge too,

    thanks for your time, Mari

    Ah, but you did not ask how it as done.
    Answer: Simply by using a coarse saw blade and then burnishing the jagged edge. Ha ha.
