    Default Soldering to silver plate?

I'm thinking about buying some silver plated cufflink fittings as a cheaper alternative to the solid silver ones. I was wondering whether you are still able to solder as normal to silver plate? If not, what's the best way of fixing to silver plated fittings?

Well, They will have to be soldered on for sure, but the suppliers must have the answer. If in doubt I might try Cooksons non hallmarking solder, which melts at between 630 and 660°C. and hope that the plating withstands it. Dennis.

Take my advice and don't waste your time with silver plated cufflink fittings, plating does not like heat treatment and will either discolour or just burn off. If you want to make some cheaper silver cufflinks, try making them with chain linking the front and back and not swivels. Just Google / Images for chain linked cufflinks to see the options.

Not that I ever wear them, but have bought them in the past for others, and I have always thought the cufflinks with the little chain to be far more elegant than the ones with the spring swivel thing, so I am with you on this one James.
