    Default Byzantine Earrings

This was a prototype of a set of byzantine earrings I made to match a byzantine chain which I gave to my mother last Christmas. My approach was to use a set of graded loop the loop chain above the byzantine set to get a pear drop shape. I also added an extra ring and the bottom to keep the shape of the byzantine and prevent it from closing.

The problem with it is the rings are 1mm wire (AR5 for the byzantine) and the ear wire is 0.8. I tried a 1 mm ear wire, but that just made the whole thing look coarse. Looking at it again, what I should do is stock some 0.9 wire and use that for the top rings to ease the gradient

    Sterling silver 2grams approx

Julian, the shape would have held better with the right AR - which for Byzantine is 3.5. However, the overall effect is very nice

I wouldn't go with a heavier earwire - many people struggle with anything thicker than 0.8mm.

I'll measure that AR tonight, I had 5 in my head, but you are right, and I do not normal stray from the recommendation. The ones i gave my mum has an extra pare of smaller rings at the top, which made it longer and smaller. if i recall correctly i reduced the rings by 0.5 mm per pair

I measured the outer diameter of the rings. 5.52, so I guess I used a 3.5 mandrill for an AR of 3.5. My nature is very exact, I was sure I was by the book! None the less, 3.2 might be better, it would tighten it.

I think I will remake them post a picture. I don't have any 0.9 but ther is room to play.

    Thanks for the input

I like your earrings Julian, but take care with the baboons. They are more than likely a protected species. Dennis.
