Good on you George. I've had a 500g tub of Polymorph for a year and guess it's similar. Bought it on a whim and never found a use for it. I should take my own advice. Dennis.

Though it is evident I did not know the difference between chasers cement and setters cement/wax I have to say I have found the red setters wax invaluable from time to time and really it is not at all messy if you whack the work out of the wax after you are done, which at the same time tells you if you have actually got your work truly fixed in place :0) otherwise it too would go flying.

Something about stable doors comes to mind, Cornelius. How does it go again?

Exactly the same stuff Dennis - I find it invaluable. I keep a large dollop on an old shellac pad that fits into my benchmate (though a ring clamp works just as well) and it allows me to set happily on just about any shape of ring shank. Makes things like this (done a couple of days ago) a doddle too - even with the jump ring in place

You seem to have gone the extra mile there George, with a narrow rim to retain the stone. So was it set from behind? Dennis.

Not set from behind - it's a rubover on homemade bearer wire with a 0.4mm top section.

Worst case scenario, a flying ring - I dont think so - char the spare expensive bedroom carpet more like.

Knowing that these cements are extremely messy and liable to let you down unless you use generous amounts, nothing would persuade me to go down that route.
The worst case scenario is that your ring will suddenly fly across the room and be badly damaged Dennis.
