Default Soldering 9ct gold to silver

I have a commission to make a ring that features a 1.20mm gold wire and sterling silver. Got into all sorts of trouble overheated my gold wire so it went brittle also every time I used hard silver solder it would jump into the gold wire and not stay on the silver baseplate I was trying to solder it to. This is my conclusion: gold gets hotter quicker than the silver. Any tips on soldering gold to silver? For instance would it be better to use 9ct gold solder?

Tricky, but if we are talking about round wire (not bezel wire)
I would spread an even layer of solder onto the backing and sweat the wire on.
That said, if you use tiny pallions of silver solder and heat from underneath, the transfer should be minimal. Dennis.
