Signet

Hello
I have a customer who wants the engraving changed on their signet. They want to keep the depth i.e. not file off the old engraving. How would you best recommend filling in the recesses? Just solder or cut small parts of gold ?

I'd laser new material in (I've done this a few times and it's easier with gold than silver). Or file it off and solder on a fresh piece of gold to retain the original depth.
How deep is it that they don't want it filed back?
