Be interesting to know what you find out as that was directly from the Birmingham assay office.
It doesn't matter too much to me atm as the pendant Ive made is for myself so if I don't feel like restringing it- which I don't particularly as the beads were a pain to do- I don't have to hallmark it.
It does seem rather crazy though that such a tiny part could invalidate the whole.

I sent a query to Edinburgh as well as I find it strange too. I even thought that the wire woven in with the horse hair wouldn't have invalidated it if it wasn't permanently attached. Like you I find beading a faff and it takes me longer than soldering something together:/ If I get a response I'll let you know

    Thanks Caroline.

I was gutted when the horsehair one was refused as it meant it had to come back to me in Portugal and be disassembled, sent back to the UK for assay, then back to me for going back to the UK again to the customer, all whilst the customer was expecting it in a few days!
The braid is only glued in to the ends too!

God Sarah I think that's nonsense but what do we know! If Edinburgh doesn't get back I'll try again. I don't bead very often but I usually just use the gimp available and never thought it would be a problem.

    Thanks Caroline

I suppose its not normally an issue as you wouldn't normally affix the beads directly to a pendant that needs hallmarking but a few of the designs I want to do are like that.

You could use black or brown (or some other colour) gimp, and that would presumably be fine since no confusion/deception. I think Peter might allow me to say I stocked up on a huge variety of different gimps last year

Yes that would work, its only when it looks similar to the gold .

You'll see I got over-excited with the ordering when I found the manufacturer!
