I've been asked to resolder a 9ct band set with microscopic flush diamonds at the front. I've only just started working with gold so still feeling my way forward.

My friend is happy for me to take the risk to the stones and I am confident I can protect them. They are a good way from the split in the shank.

However I'm struggling to close the split in the shank. I can get it very close but not quite closed. Pressure from my cross lock tweezers will close it beautifully, though.

I know sterling silver can shatter if you do that. Does 9ct carry the same risk?
