Oops I did it again?
Took a nice long drive up to Glossop yesterday to collect some tools I bought on EBay. A fair journey, but well worthwhile...
I am now the proud owner of a Raytech-Shaw faceter, another flat lap machine, a trim saw, books, all the accessories I might need for a very long time and a collection of rough. The collection includes emeralds, aqua, tourmaline, sapphire, amethyst and some ametrine.
Still trying to work out what's what, but this is a particularly nice example:
I am not intending to do standard cuts - the market is saturated with those and there's no way I can compete - but for unusual cuts with some nice stone I think is worth pursuing.

That look amazing, look forward to seeing what comes out of it
-
I'll work up gradually to using the nice stuff
-
Now that's very exciting Peter - and that chunk of ametrine looks delicious!!

Forgot to put in the dimensions - about 45x35x20mm. 270cts...

Mmmm! Look forward to seeing the end result.

I've got just over 2000 carats of ametrine - that's not the biggest, I just like the clarity. Haven't inspected much of the rest.
I think I'll cut a moderate amount of the single-colour amethyst before messing with that

Off piste here, but I hope you had time to enjoy the Snake Pass. I was born in Glossop, miss my hills. Lovely stones by the way. Looking forward to seeing the results of your playing.

I spent ages sat on the M1 at 50mph due to roadworks and average speed cameras, so getting off the motorway and into some countryside made it all worthwhile. Would have been nice if I'd had more time to enjoy the views.
That said, I didn't actually go via Snake Pass (even though the weather wasn't going to be a problem for once!) - just along the A628.

How exciting!
Do please share pics with us Peter!
