Hello,
I'm sending off my very first wax to be cast (ulp) along with something to have a mould made so I can modify waxes to then be cast.

Hello folks, it's been a while. Hope everyone is well. I can actually currently see my desk which helps as I can't use the forum on my phone, which is mostly how I do everything online these days. I...
I go through fine black Sharpies like no-one's business. I also would like a lie-detector test to find out which child of mine 'borrowed' my technical drawing pens and lost them. (I have my...
I'd recommend a (fine) frosting wheel for the finish - if it's hammered the matte effect will stay in the indented areas. When uskng a matte finidh I offer to redo it as and when as it will shine up.
Wards have some nice pink rubies too. Nice job!
Well done Charlotte, and nice baby work too ♡
I'd def. use the double shank design for comfort. I guess the square thing depends on how deep they will be - the thicker they are the more aware you'll be of wearing it
Hello! (and you've just reminded me I need to sort out my Christmas cards to my friends and family in Aus & New Zealand! )
Generally I go half way down the depth of the ball burr before switching to a setting burr, then trying the stone. If it's a noticeably shallow stone, I'll stop before half way. You need to make sure...
I usually love fabric in jewellery, I'm afraid I'm much too grubby and thumb fingered to keep it looking as intended though. Look forward to seeing your work!
I also use the plastic ring sizers, and have had no problems. Worth it!
This is a little landscape piece I made with textured silver as the background, a reticulated 'mountain', and an orange sapphire. Keum boo gave the gold details, and then an oxidised wash gave the...
After I had small person number two, we both nearly kicked the bucket (different ways), and it made me realise I needed to do something that made me happy. I was not going to work back in telly, and...
Thanks Dennis, you're a gem.
I find the best way to get a super clean join after sawing is by using a flat sided needle file in the join, pushing both edges towards the file and gently drawing the file back and forth. Good luck!
oh, and def. don't do it on cufflinks. Grubby shirt-cuffs a go-go.
the only places those earrings would polish up would be on the hooks themselves where they rest in the lobes.
There's always the option of telling the customer the 'boiled egg yolk in a bag method'...
Apologies for late reply. I have a super-fast turnaround request from someone in the US and wanted to check I did not need to hallmark (I have just enough time to ship and make it).
I got a super speedy answer from LAO on Facebook last week (The old 'making something for a customer in the states' query).
I did wonder that. Hmm you have given me pause for thought. Do you think say a piece 5mm wide x 2mm deep x 15mm long would be big enough? Thank you Dennis.
Good luck Peter, hope moving is as stress free as it is possible to be.
Hi Peter,
I have just done a few days of chain making (my eyes, my eeeeeeyes), and find the solder paste really useful for this as you can use the weeniest bit and it doesn't slide off when the...
Hello hello,
(It's been a while), I'm wondering what gents favour to wear as a cufflink fitting? I like the look of the whale tails very much, and have made ball and stem ones previously, but having...
I've not seen it either, but we are spoiled for dragons in Wales. Rather fond of the castle touring family: http://cadw.gov.wales/fun/livethelegends/the-dragons-lair/?lang=en
I still haven't got any. I must, must, must!
