I have just made my first stone set ring :) It's by no means perfect, but I'm quite proud of it for my first attempt and thought I'd share it with you :) The band has a leaf texture and has a tube set 3mm iolite.

The Case Of The kinky Cable.

I sometimes like to make my necklaces with cable, because the drape compliments the round necklines of summer tops. But using silver for this sometimes ends up with a kink and then another, until it's a complete mess.

Deciding to look for something better online, I found these Crimp n’ Go plastic covered steel cables: http://beadservice.net/shop/catalog/...8b6636445f4%26. ( Find Crimp n Go cable listed on left near the bottom). They are inexpensive, elegant at only 1.15mm in diameter and difficult to kink, even deliberately. The intention is to undo the screw fastener, cut the loose end to size and crimp it into the tube.

In my case I not only found it fitted the home-made bail and cable end I had use before, but I fixed it into the cable ends with five minute Devcon epoxy. I find this very convenient, as they never come undone in use, but are easy to remove again with some tension and gentle heat from a mini-torch.
Below are the cables I bought as a sample order, which cost £11.90 with postage and my re-furbished necklace. Dennis.

A Zigzag Buckle.

Up to now I have been quite happy to make my button-on buckles and provide straps of different colours to go with them. But it has become obvious that no one wants to faff around with changing colours when they are just off to work, so I am getting requests for more buckles in new designs.

Here is the first of this year, with a rim of 7x4mm rectangular strip and the zigzags made from 3mm square wire. The centre was kept at the right level for soldering, by sanding down a small insert of soldering board until it was just 3mm thick: a pretty dusty job.

The reverse view reveals all its secrets. Dennis.
